CULTURE

CONGRATULATIONS - posted 12th February 2012 - We have to congratulate our community constable Mario Kake who has now been appointed as the new Iwi Liaison Officer for the Mid Far North. Unfortunately for the school this means Mario’s involvement with the kapa haka group will be reduced as he commits himself to the new role. The school wishes Mario every success with his new appointment.

CONTINUING WITH KAPA HAKA - posted 12th February 2012 - Fortunately for the college Robbie Whiu and whaea Maungaroa have been able to work with our students. This work paid off with our first powhiri where the school welcomed 30 new students and their families to our college on the 10th February 2012. Robbie and Maungaroa are an excellent addition to our school and bring a sense of pride and culture back to our school. As a school we look forward to the developments over the year as both Robbie and Maungaroa work alongside our students.

KAPA HAKA - Whangaroa College has been a force with cultural activities in the past and we aim to be a force once again in the future. 2012 will see an exciting addition to our school with our Community Constable Mario Kake coming on board to tutor our students for Kapa Haka. This is an exciting development in our school and we are positive that Kapa Haka will once again become a feature in our college.
