CULTURAL EVENTS

Maori Culture and specifically Kapa Haka is a big focus and cultural activity at Whangaroa College. Our tutors Whaea Stacie Tumoana and Whaea Nikita Williams (two homegrown whanau and teachers at our kura) have worked with our Kapa Haka group over the last 6 months. In that time our roopu have gone from strength to strength.

2020 is an exciting year for our Kapa Haka roopu, they have a special Cruise ship performance in March, performances at the Nga Purapura Festival and our 50th Jubilee. The Tai Tokerau Secondary Schools Festival is the 7th and 8th of April held in Dargaville this year as well. And that's just Term 1! There will be other performances throughout the year, including Matariki in Term 2 and end of year performances in December.

Other cultural activities include the Northland Youth Arts Trip, Opera trips, plays, and if interested we cater for other Music and Drama activities where possible. We have worked with outside providers to help keep our students engaged in as many cultural events as well.
